In this chapter, we look at how SharePoint 2010 can provide the sophisticated records management services required for electronic document and records management systems (EDRMSs). As a combined suite of software services, SharePoint 2010 is not designed specifically as an EDRMS, but it does provide most of the functionality that an organization would typically require. SharePoint 2010 provides a much more scalable storage system than previous versions of the product, and is able to store and manage up to one million items in a folder, tens of millions of items in a single library, and potentially hundreds of millions of items in a large archive.
