Manage User Profiles

After a successful profile synchronization, it may be necessary to view and edit the resulting user profiles. This is commonly done to review and make temporary changes to profiles in between synchronizations. However, it may also be necessary to update profile properties that users should not be updating themselves.

Viewing Profiles and Editing a Profile

It is useful to be able to review the profiles after they have been imported and to be able to manually update the details in each profile.

To view and edit a profile, perform the following steps:

1. From SharePoint 2010 Central Administration, under Application Management, click Manage Service Applications.

2. On the Manage Service Applications page, click the User Profile Service Application link.

3. On the Manage Profile Service page, click Manage User Profiles.

4. In the Find Profiles box, enter all or part of a profile name to search for, and then click Find.

5. Hover over the profile you want to view and, from the context menu, select Edit My Profile.

6. Change the values you wish to update and click Save And Close.

Creating a New Profile

Normally, profiles are created automatically through the synchronization process. It may be necessary in some cases to create a profile manually for accounts that are not included in the import.

To create a profile, follow these steps:

1. From SharePoint 2010 Central Administration, under Application Management, click Manage Service Applications.

2. On the Manage Service Applications page, click the User Profile Service Application link.

3. On the Manage Profile Service page, click Manage User Profiles.

4. Click New Profile and fill in the required fields.

NOTE Fields that are mapped to Active Directory attributes will be overwritten during the next synchronization.

5. Click Save And Close.

Deleting a Profile

To immediately delete a profile that should no longer be displayed, perform the following steps:

1. From SharePoint 2010 Central Administration, under Application Management, click Manage Service Applications.

2. On the Manage Service Applications page, click the User Profile Service Application link.

3. On the Manage Profile Service page, click Manage User Profiles.

4. In the Find Profiles box, enter all or part of a profile name to search for, and then click Find.

5. Hover over the profile you want to view and, from the context menu, select Delete.

6. Click OK.
