Creating Links between Documents in a Project

You can create links from one document to another that appear just like web-page hyperlinks — but they jump you to a document.

Inserting a link with a title

To create a link to a document right within the current text, click in the desired location. Then, choose Edit⇒Scrivener Link (or right-click in the Editor), and choose the document to which you want to link from the submenu that appears.

The linked document title appears as a hyperlink within the current document.

Converting existing text to a link

To add a link to a specific selection of text, instead of using the linked document title, select the desired text, choose Edit⇒Scrivener Link, and then choose the document to which you want to link from the submenu that appears.

The selected text becomes a hyperlink that takes you to the linked document when clicked.

Removing a link

To remove a link with a title, you can simply select and delete the link from the text. If you converted text to a link, you probably don’t want to delete the text, but merely remove the hyperlink.

To remove the hyperlink without removing the linked text, select the text in the Editor, and then choose Edit⇒Unlink. To remove multiple links in a document, select a range of text that includes all the links, and then choose Edit⇒Unlink.

Be careful, though — Unlink removes all hyperlinks, not just Scrivener links.

Changing link behavior

You can either open links in the current Editor, a second split Editor (listed as Other Editor), or a QuickReference panel. To determine the behavior, follow these steps:

1. Choose Scrivener⇒Preferences.

2. Click the Navigation button at the top of the window.

The Navigation options appear.

3. Select the desired location from the Open Clicked Scrivener Links In drop-down list.
