Editing or Deleting a Footnote

You edit a footnote differently, depending on the type of footnote:

check.png Linked footnote: Double-click the text in the Comments & Footnotes pane to enter Edit mode, and then make your changes.

check.png Inline footnote: Click in the gray bubble in the Editor and make changes, as needed.

tip.eps The gray box around an inline footnote is simply a special type of formatting. If you paste regular text into the footnote, you split it. Likewise, if you copy text from a footnote and paste it into your regular text, you create another inline footnote. To avoid this split, choose Edit⇒Paste and Match Style to paste text into, or copied from, an inline footnote.

To delete footnotes, use these procedures:

check.png A single linked footnote: Click the X in the upper-right corner of the footnote box in the Comments & Footnotes pane (refer to Figure 11-1). Alternatively, you can delete the text anchor (the link) in the manuscript.

check.png Multiple linked footnotes: Select them in the Comments & Footnotes pane, and then click the Delete Selected Comments and Footnotes button (refer to Figure 11-1) or press the Delete key.

check.png Inline footnotes: Select all the characters and spaces within the inline footnote bubble, and then press the Delete key.
