For retrieving the JSON template for an individual resource, we can use the Resource Explorer. The Resource Explorer is shown here and can be found in the Azure portal by using the menu (1):

After opening the resource explorer, two new panes open up. The left pane can be used to navigate through subscriptions and drill down into the resource groups, down to the individual resources. For every element that is selected, the corresponding JSON will be displayed on the right. In the preceding example, the JSON for a hard disk is shown. This JSON is the same as the JSON that can be used in the resources array of an ARM template.
