Merge commit

A regular merge commit is a type of commit that maintains visibility of all previous commits. It has a reference to two parents, showing both origins of the change, namely the source and target branch. This is the same type of merge as you can perform manually using a Git merge. The advantage of this type of commit is that it clearly shows where the new state of the target branch comes from.
