Implementing the Just-in-Time Management Platform (JMP)

The VMware Horizon Just-in-Time Management Platform (JMP), pronounced jump, is an optional component of an VMware Horizon infrastructure. The Horizon JMP Server provides for a single unified Horizon GUI that can assign instant-clone desktops, App Volumes AppStacks, and User Environment Manager persona settings to deliver personalized desktops and applications on demand, eliminating the need to maintain persistent desktops.

This chapter will discuss multiple topics surrounding the requirements, deployment, configuration, and use of the Horizon JMP Server.

We will cover the following topics:

  • An overview of the Horizon Just-in-Time Management Platform
  • The virtual machine and operating system requirements of a Horizon Connection Server
  • Infrastructure, vCenter, and Horizon installation prerequisites
  • Installing the Horizon JMP Server
  • Configuring the Horizon JMP Server
  • Creating a JMP Assignment, which uses a single wizard to entitle access to a Horizon pool and AppVolumes AppStacks, and select which UEM configuration options to apply
  • Deleting, duplicating, or modifying a JMP Assignment

JMP Assignments make it much easier to grant access to Horizon resources. While veteran Horizon administrators may prefer using the individual administrative consoles to perform this task, you should ask yourself whether a JMP Server would make it easier for junior resources to create and administer end user workspaces.
