VMware infrastructure requirements

Horizon JMP Server relies on multiple VMware products in order to deliver just-in-time desktops. The following versions of these products are supported:

  • vSphere 6.0 Update 2 or later (minimum requirement for Instant Clone functionality)
    • 6.5 or later recommended
  • Horizon 7.5 or later (minimum requirement for JMP Server installation)
    • A Microsoft RDSH server or Windows desktop master image with a Horizon Agent with  the Instant Clone option, App Volumes agent, and User Environment Manager FlexEngine service installed.
    • You will also need a copy of the Horizon Connection Server SSL certificate, exported using the Windows certificates MMC as a Base-64 encoded X.509 (.CER) file named horizon.cert.pem.
      • You do not need to export the certificate private key.
    • The svc-jmp service account should be granted administrative permissions at the root level of the Horizon pod.
    • You will need a floating assignment, Instant Clone-based desktop, or RDS Server pool to create a JMP Assignment.
  • App Volumes 2.14 or later:
    • App Volumes should be configured as needed to attach AppStacks and, if required, writable volumes.
    • You will also need a copy of the App Volumes Manager server certificate, exported using a web browser connected to the server console, and saved as a PEM file named av-selfsigned.cert.pem.
    • The svc-jmp service account should be granted administrative permissions in App Volumes Manager.
    • If you wish to include AppStacks in your JMP Assignment, you will need to create them in advance.
While JMP Assignments will be used to assign AppStacks to users, writable volumes are still assigned using whichever method you prefer using the App Volumes Manager such as user, computer, security group, or organizational unit.
  • User Environment Manager 9.2.1 or later:
    • UEM should be configured as needed to capture needed application settings and, if required, redirect user profile folders (documents, pictures, and so on).
    • The svc-jmp service account should be granted administrative permissions to the UEM configuration share.
    • If you wish to leverage UEM in your JMP Assignment, you will need to configure the settings you require in advance.
  • Identity Manager 2.9.2 or later (for optional integration with VMware Workspace ONE)
The deployment of Identity Manager and Workspace ONE, as well as their integration with the JMP server, are outside the scope of this book. Refer to the VMware Identity Manager (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Identity-Manager/index.html) and VMware Workspace ONE (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE/index.html) documentation.
