Qlik Sense Enterprise in the cloud

Qlik Sense Enterprise gives you the full spectrum of functionality, customizability, and features of Qlik similar to the Qlik Sense Server edition. Qlik Sense Enterprise can be bought as a solution which is hosted in the cloud on Qlik's premises, with some additional management options. It's designed for organizations that need to widely deploy governed data and self-service analytics, and build custom apps and extensions with an unlimited integration of data from different sources. It also provides guaranteed granular control, administration, and governance of deployed data, apps, and the user and user groups accessing them. Qlik Sense Enterprise, in brief, differentiates itself from the Basic and Business Cloud models by offering the following additional options:

  • Flexible deployment: Ability to deploy Qlik Sense server in a cloud of your choice with several options provided by Qlik, which include administration services, either by themselves or by one of their accredited Qlik partners. Qlik Sense Enterprise on the cloud can also become one part of a larger Qlik Sense infrastructure using a so-called hybrid approach, which will be covered later in this chapter. You can also choose to manage and deploy a private cloud-based deployment which is fully managed by an in-house team and hosted on a secured server like AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Customize: By being in full control of the Qlik Sense Enterprise installation, you can also leverage Qlik's open and standard APIs to develop custom guided analytics apps (called mashups), embed analytics in operational (web) apps sitting outside of Qlik Sense, and use extensions created by others, such as the Vizlib library.
  • Event-based data refreshes: Trigger data refreshes based on events within your business processes, or leverage the Qlik Sense scheduler, which allows you to schedule automatic reloads of your apps up to every minute.
  • Create user-specific data views: Qlik engine supports data-level security, called section access, which reduces the available data set to the user, based on their permission.
  • Expanded data connectivity options: Qlik Sense Enterprise has a variety of data connectors, which are either available for free or can be purchased and added to your existing platform. A full list of which ones are available can be viewed at the following link: https://www.qlik.com/us/products/qlik-connectors.

Qlik Sense Enterprise on the cloud is mostly relevant for organizations that are looking for a cost-efficient and quick way to invest in and scale their data analytics capabilities without necessarily having to supply the required infrastructure themselves. They can either leverage Qlik's managed hosting services, or with powerful cloud-based infrastructure providers available, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, also manage their hosted data analytics solution themselves. Given its speed of deployment and flexible options for scaling, hosting Qlik Sense Enterprise on the cloud can be a desirable and cost-efficient solution for many organizations, small and large who prefer OPEX (operational expenditures) over CAPEX(capital expenditures).

As already discussed in the introduction to this chapter, data security and regulation are, however, serious considerations which need to be assessed before going for a cloud-based option.
