Hybrid cloud

As Andrew Clarke beautifully described in a blog post at http://global.qlik.com/cn/blog/posts/drew-clarke/hybrid-cloud-analytics, Cloud is a delivery mechanism, not a solution. As such, Qlik is working on a hybrid cloud solution available for Qlik Sense Enterprise, which will give you the choice of how you wish to release your Qlik Sense environment to your users: on-premise, on the cloud, or even a mix of both, by connecting the whole infrastructure under one roof.

Cloud is a delivery mechanism, not a solution. The hybrid cloud analytics solution will be a customer-defined strategy, not a policy defined by the vendor.

While a hybrid solution is not yet available at the time of writing, it is still worth discussing the hybrid model as an option when deploying Qlik Sense analytics on the cloud. The key ingredients to define Qlik's approach in providing hybrid cloud analytics can be summarized as follows:

  • Transparency: Full transparency where the data resides and where the analysis happens. The user will be presented with all available apps and data through one single universal hub based on their role and security permission, not the location of where things reside and run.
  • Location Enforcement: For several reasons, including but not limited to industrial, or national regulation, or companies' protection of their intellectual property, customers may choose to host data and do analysis against it within their premises, behind a firewall or offline. Within the hybrid cloud, as an administrator, you will be able to designate via the management console where the data is hosted and create enforcement rules on where digital assets can and will reside based on that dataset.
  • Orchestrated Entitlement: Entitlements and licensing will be easily managed universally for the whole platform, regardless of whether the user is accessing via the cloud or the on-premise environment.
  • Bi-directional Migration: Migration is vital. Based on the customer's criteria, a bi-directional migration to/from one infrastructure environment to another will be seamless in the hybrid cloud deployment.
  • Single Management Console: A hybrid cloud analytical solution will be managed as one seamless environment across infrastructure boundaries via a single console.
