Chapter 11, Implementing App Volumes

  1. Decouple applications from the underlying virtual desktop master image where they can be attached to a desktop on demand, and persist user-installed applications even when using non-persistent desktops.
  2. You will use the same database that the first one uses, but be sure you do not erase it when performing the installation.
  3. A single large AppStack.
  4. Persist user-installed applications across Horizon client sessions.
  5. The application and any integration points it has with Windows are captured and exported to a separate virtual disk file. Once extracted, the resulting disk file can be attached to multiple virtual desktops at once.
  6. User Environment Manager.
  7. Applications can be updated independently of the virtual desktop master image, multiple versions of an application can be deployed at the same time, the virtual desktop master image is often easier to maintain since it has fewer applications to install, and AppStacks can be added to a virtual desktop at any time, even if a user is currently logged on.
