Identifying milestones

Another thing that can help the project manager and the whole project team to determine whether or not a project is on track is to divide the project into different milestones. Project managers divide project tasks into these milestones and they should be updated regularly to keep the status up to date.

Once all of the information is ready, the project manager can create a project plan for the Dynamics 365 CE implementation. Project managers can use simple Excel sheets to prepare project plans, or they can use project planning tools. Microsoft Project is the most common tool used to prepare project plans, and it can be used to track a project's progress.

While preparing the project plan, it is also recommended to prepare a draft of the project plan first. You should keep your project plan simple and easy to understand. The following are the key points that you need to keep in mind while preparing the project plan:

  • Provide Dynamics 365 CE implementation details and customer details.
  • Maintain the version number for your project plan as it helps you to track revisions.
  • Include all Dynamics 365 CE phases in your project plan.
  • Include milestones and related tasks within these milestones.
  • Assign every task to the respective team member.
  • Include timelines for tasks.
  • Include different statuses for tasks, such as Not Started, In Progress, Ready for Test, Completed, and On Hold.
  • Keep a comments section, to include additional information for the tasks.

This way, we can prepare our project plan and present it to all of the team members, to give them a complete picture of Dynamics 365 CE implementations.
