Auditing

This section is used to configure auditing for our Dynamics 365 CE organization. The Auditing feature in Dynamics 365 CE allows us to track changes in the entity field. Auditing is enabled at three levels. Organization-level auditing setting is configured using the following screen:

We can enable Auditing using the Start Auditing option. We can also enable Audit user access, which will track user access to Dynamics 365 CE organization data. The Start Read Auditing option allows us to access audit information from the Office 365 portal.

Once auditing is enabled at organization level, we can configure it for entities and fields. Proper consideration should be taken when selecting fields for auditing; otherwise, it can increase database size. We can navigate to Settings | Auditing to manage auditing configuration and to see auditing logs. We can click on Entity and Field Audit Settings to configure it for entities and fields. By default, most of the fields for out-of-the-box entities are enabled for auditing, so we can disable auditing for the fields we don't require to be audited. Keep in mind that even though you have enabled auditing for the field, it will only work if the entity is enabled for auditing. Similarly, the system will start auditing only when you have enabled auditing at the organization level, as shown in the following screenshot:

We can use Audit Summary View to see all of the auditing captured for our Dynamics 365 CE organization. If we want to delete old logs, we can use the Audit Log Management option. Bear in mind that we can only delete old logs.
