DPACK

DPACK is a software solution developed by Dell that works non-disruptively on physical systems based on Windows and Linux OS, but could also be used to collect data from VMware virtual environments.

The DPACK collector runs remotely and is totally agentless, and so without the need to modify your environment, it can gather some core metrics such as disk I/O, throughput, free and used capacity, and memory utilization. After that, DPACK produces an in-depth analysis of server workloads and capacity requirements to help optimize data center operations and expansion.

This tool is usually used to analyze both virtualization and physical data center, because it's hardware and platform-agnostic analysis service records workload characteristics, measures performance, and creates simulations from various industry-leading platforms.

All this data provides better visibility and information in order to:

  • Eliminate overspending
  • Speed up decision-making
  • Identify opportunities for virtualization
  • Increase the utility of future IT investment

This tool can reduce the guesswork involved in data center expansion and troubleshooting, and a DPACK analysis typically takes 24 hours or less to complete. For example, a storage analysis from this assessment should look as follows:

Initially, it was a service limited to Dell and selected partners, but now DPACK accounts are free and you can get one today at http://dpack2.dell.com/register/today.
