Starting with VMware Horizon 7, it's possible to choose two different ways to deliver virtual desktop pools in a space-optimized way: using VMware Composer and Linked Clones technology (existing from several years), or using the VMware Instant Clones technology introduced in vSphere 6.0.
Both technologies share a virtual disk of a parent VM between multiple VMs and therefore consume less storage than full clone VMs. It's something like differential disks in other virtualization solutions. But instant clones (also called just-in-time VM delivery or VM Fork) are significantly faster than linked clones.
Transparent page sharing is automatically enabled because clones can also share the memory of a parent VM, making them not only space efficient on the storage side, but also on the memory side. Unfortunately, there isn't a direct way to make them from the management interfaces, but only from other products. Actually, instant clones can be used in VMware Horizon Enterprise and from vSphere Integrated Containers.
