SUMMARY
IoT gaining popularity is due to easy availability of Internet and mobile phones. Mobile phones
are becoming smarter and smarter, which is opening doors for automation and connected intel-
ligence. Various dierent devices can connect together to perform meaningful operations such
as sending patient’s vitals to hospital systems, sensing water level in flood areas, and temperature
sensors. However, more and more devices are bringing more and more challenges in terms of
communication as they may communicate via dierent protocols. Hence, it is important to have
knowledge of all these protocols and sensors which can connect together.
In this chapter, we have learnt the following concepts:
• Various IoT protocols including communication and network;
• Various IoT sensors and their uses in various fields;
• What are endpoints like lightweight endpoint and complex endpoint;
• Data communication such as device-to-device, device-to-cloud, and device-to-gateway;
• IoT data management such as querying, production, collection, and delivery; and
• Analytics like streaming analytics, spatial analytics, time series, and prescriptive.
In the next chapter, you will learn about various IoT architectural elements such as identifying
core entities, learning layered architecture, sensor communication layer, middleware applica-
tion layer, database layer, functional blocks of IoT, flow chart diagram, activity diagram, state
diagram, component diagram, and composite structure diagram.
