One of the users of Cisco’s IoT product is the Canadian company in British Columbia, BC
Hydro. The company is responsible to supply energy to an extensive list of customers including
industrial, commercial, and residential consumers. Earlier, the company struggled with its tra-
ditional machinery where it dealt with the following challenges:
Difficulty in the provision of dependable and premium quality services,
Struggling to monitor and engage in the automation of its systems from the outside of
its plants, and
Streamline its operations via a fully-connected infrastructure.
At the time of adversity, BC Hydro chose Cisco’s IoT solution. The solution consisted of
Cisco’s AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) and Field Area Network which assisted
the utility to develop a “smart grid”. Other components of Cisco included Cisco’s Identity
Services Engine, NOS (Network Optimization Advanced Services), and PDI (Planning,
Design, and Implementation). The solution not only succeeded in linking all the devices
and IoT-based equipment of the utility but also bolstered the cybersecurity via the intro-
duction of “connected firewalls”.
Salesforce
Salesforce combines the capabilities of IoT and big data to create huge networks of connected
