10. Design and implementation of IoT planner: Device interaction service for IoT

Abstract:
Interaction and communication between IoT devices are a new service trend in Internet of Things (IoT).
With the connectivity and resources of an IoT device/service, various scenarios can be provided to build interac-
tion between IoT devices. To make those interactions more eective and ecient, an eective device interaction
service for IoT is proposed. The proposed service uses a temporal relationship between device usage statistic data
to create interaction services. To gather device usage statistic data, the proposed service employs IoT Delegate
which works as a proxy for IoT services, and temporal relationship is computed using cross-correlation between
statistic data. For computation of device relations, a cross-correlation algorithm is employed. A prototype
service for IoT curation service has been implemented, and it draws valuable IoT device interaction use case
scenarios.
SUMMARY
IoT implementation has many components and any IoT project must consider all the elements
in respect to end-to-end deployment. Not all companies have all the expertise in terms of doing
end-to-end deployments and hence these deployments may become time-consuming or simply
dicult to achieve. Frameworks solve this problem as they provide a complete solution for all
the stages of deployment making it easier for these companies.
In this chapter, we have learnt the following:
• IoT Framework and its need;
• The components associated with the IoT framework;
• IoT value chain and its components;
• Various different IoT frameworks;
• IoT ecosystem; and
• Elements of IoT implementation.
In the next chapter, we will learn about IoT design patterns, understand the dierence between
traditional and IoT design patterns, learning challenges for selecting a specific design pattern,
learn strategies to overcome challenges to implement chosen design patterns, learn various
tools needed to implement design patterns.
