database, the IoT needs internet connectivity. Some of the advanced sensors could generate over
10,000 data points per second. Thus, it makes it very important to process and analyze the data
locally before sending it to the cloud database. By the analyzation and summarization of the
data, we can eectively decrease the unnecessary data send to the cloud database. A microcon-
troller is a very small computer with a CPU. This device helps the device storage and the process
of pre-processing before sending it to the cloud.
The microcontroller comprises of a processor, a tiny amount of RAM to hold data, flash
memory or EPROM to have embedded software, and solid-state memory to enable caching of
data. The most important feature of this tier is networking, which is either wired or wireless.
Wired connections are usually used where the IoT has access to an external power source.
However, IoTs are meant to flexible and often rely on batteries, having a wired connection
means have physical cables. In the majority of the cases, people use Wi-Fi, wireless modems,
and wireless mesh networks to connect to the internet.
Using the Service Platforms
The first two tiers for the Thing Stack are the hardware for IoT device. A computer is incomplete
without good software to operate. This tier of service platform delivers value to the users of IoT by
automating various processes and providing rich data analytics. The cloud application is responsible
for combining data collected from various IoT sensors to give us useful insights that create business
value. For the best results, there must be a feedback loop between the IoT devices and device man-
agement software, so users could easily upgrade, monitor, and maintain the firmware on any device.
The intermingling between the digital and physical worlds is creating huge stress on the IT
operations by raising the demands for better data management, tagging, storage and analysis.
Having a robust cloud infrastructure for an IoT service platform is the best way to business
growth with any IoT product in the market. The Service platforms are responsible for storing
and making decisions based on the collected data from every type of IoT devices.
IoT REVOLUTION
IoT revolution has started with the idea of having a connected world to not only solve the real
world problems but also optimize the existing processes in many areas. The idea of having con-
nected devices struck like a lightening to many industries and they started working towards
making their products communicate with others. This revolution gave birth to many new indus-
tries like smart city, home automation, etc. Governments and corporate entities in the space
of city administration started thinking about modernizing common services like waste man-
agement, parking optimization, street light management, trac management etc. These types
of initiatives pulled the complete supply chain in this space towards implementing IoT, which
ultimately had a snowball eect.
BENEFITS OF IoT
IoT brings a lot of benefits to end users and businesses. With invent of IoT we can now think
of connected worlds. It not only simplifies life for end users but also adds incredible benefits to
businesses. Following are some of the benefits of using IoT.
