and acquisition. The communication infrastructure that they are using requires low-powered
wireless sensors which help in power saving.
The company Ex Machina has expertise in environmental IoT predictive analytics and pro-
vides a wide range of solutions based on IoT technologies. The sensors they have used in this
particular project have low range and are capable of real-time data transmission, device control
etc. They also provide over the air fi rmware upgrades (FOTA) to make it easier for the users.
A High-tech, expandable and reliable platform
The CEO of ExMachina, Manolis Nikiforakis has a great experience in the domain of IoT.
Presently, he works as the leader of this project, in which a network of thirteen devices with
wireless sensor network has been deployed.
The airport sta and the environmental departments involved in the project were greatly
satisfi ed by the promising results. The analytics results and statistics are the most impressive
part of the project.
CASE STUDY 3
FISH FARMING BY CONTROLLING WATER
TANKS IN VIETNAM
The fi shing industry is one of the largest industries in the coastal regions. Located near the
South China Sea, Vietnam is one of the most prominent fi sh producer and exporter in the world.
Annually the country produces over 5,699,250 tons of fi shes which holds an export value of $1.7
billion. USA, Europe, China, and Mexico are its main markets of export. However, determining
the best quality of production isn’t always the easiest job for hardworking farmers. The European
Union already gave a warning to the fi sh wholesalers to maintain the quality of the fi shes and
improve their farming conditions.
One of the major of IoT and ICT in Vietnam has developed a wireless sensor network for a
Vietnamese fi sh farm located in Thanh Binh District, next to Mekong River. Their objective was
to e ectively monitor the real-time parameters to ensure water quality and detect diseases that
could a ect the fi sh population. This might improve fi sh production by increasing quality and
quantity.
Real-time monitoring system
The real-time monitoring would allow the farmers to be aware of any preventable diseases in
order to save expense in the treatment of the diseases. This will keep the fi sh population in
good health before harvesting them for the consumer. The company has decided to choose an
advanced sensor platform for the project. Thus, it is much easier to implement and scale the
project depending on the requirements and has fewer maintenance costs. Smart water sensors
have been equipped in the source of the water supply and also in the fi sh farm itself. Water and
sh quality are determined by:
