PROJECT 8: SMART WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
BASED ON IoT BY USING RASPBERRY PI
Introduction and Objectives
Water is one of the most essential natural resources for humans, animals and plants. Without
water, there will be no life on planet earth. Every living organism requires some amount of water
to sustain themselves. Our planet has sucient water in the form of water bodies. However,
not all water is clean and ready to drink. An imbalance in the water quality could throw serious
eects on health conditions in our bodies. Every year millions of people die because of diseases
related to contaminated water. The challenges are growing fast along with the growth of popu-
lation. People are still using conventional methods of collecting water for their daily needs.
Developing countries like India are the worst aected regions. WHO has estimated that around
77 million people in India are facing problems due to unsafe drinking water. Plus, it is also
estimated by WHO that 1600 people die every day in India due to contaminated water. The
impurities in the water could give birth to deadly viruses and bacteria that could be a potential
threat to human lives. To resolve this problem, we will build a smart water management system
that will analyse the quality of the water by using various sensors.
Methods
In our project, we will be connecting the PH sensor, conductivity sensor, and turbidity sensor to
a Raspberry Pi. The data collected from the sensors will be uploaded to the cloud for analysis.
Later, we will also add Flow sensor and a Solenoid Valve to inspect how much water is consumed
by each house. The solenoid Valve will help us to automatically close the pipe once the house-
hold has exceeded its limit. The entire system will work together to inspect the quality of the
water and regulate it to the channels.
The Raspberry Pi will become the heart of the entire system. All the values collected from
the sensor will get processed and uploaded to the cloud. An authorized person will be able to
