Configuration data packages

To reduce the implementation time, Microsoft releases multiple base data packages that you can use as a starting seed for your implementation projects. These packages contain the elements that are required in each module/area in order to meet the minimum requirements. For advanced business processes, you may have to add more entities to the list of packages.

The configuration data packages are available in LCS in Asset library | Data packages and can be imported into your implementation project data package asset. These data packages contain configuration entity spreadsheets based on the best practices data from Microsoft, which can be used to create an initial golden environment.

The entity spreadsheets include three types of data:

  • Business data: The spreadsheet contains standard business data for a sample mid-sized company, combining the best practices and business standards to be used as a starting point for your initial configuration.
  • Sample data: The spreadsheet contains data that can be used as an example for business-specific data. This data can be imported and used as an example, but it is expected to be changed in the spreadsheets itself, before loading it.
  • No data: This spreadsheet doesn't contain any data. Several areas of the product are unique to each business and its business practices; hence, these spreadsheets must be reviewed and updated as per the organization's needs.

Data entities in configuration data packages are sequenced appropriately to guarantee a successful single-click import of the data, thereby ensuring data dependencies. These configuration data packages are great starting points to accelerate the configuration of your solution on Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
