Business document management

Business document management is a feature of Finance and Operations that combines the Electronic Reporting (ER) framework, Microsoft Office document templates, and print management features to deliver an end-to-end business document customization experience. Business document management enables business users to customize business documents, such as purchase order, and customer invoices, within Finance and Operation applications.

Similar to other ER configurations, Microsoft provides all business document mapping configurations and templates via the LCS. Customers and partners can download base configurations and templates from LCS and use them with print management. Business users can also customize the configuration and layout using Microsoft Office 365 and ER configurations tools.

The Business document management feature has a dedicated workspace that's used to manage the life cycle of the business document templates. The following screenshot shows the business document management workspace in action:

As highlighted in the preceding screenshot, the business user can use the business document management workspace to create a copy of the purchase order template and edit the template directly in Finance and Operations. The following screenshot shows the Office 365 template editing experience within Finance and Operations:

As shown in the preceding screenshot, document template editing is done in a Microsoft Office 365 system such as Excel within Finance and Operations. Using Excel, you can easily swap the logo, change the layout, change the font, color, and much more, and then save the template. Once the template has been finalized, you can publish and configure print management to use it.

In conclusion, we can see that business document management is a powerful feature that can be used to customize business documents without any coding effort.

At the time of writing this book, the business document management feature was newly released and there are tons of enhancements planned for future releases to enable end-to-end business document customization and delivery.

So far, we've learned about various options for business/commercial documents in Finance and Operations. Now, let's turn our attention to another reporting need from ERP systems: financial reporting.
