Business events

Business events introduce an event-driven integration model in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. Business events occur when a business process is executed in the application. Some example business events could be a sales order being shipped or a purchase order being confirmed.

The following diagram illustrates how business events work in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations:

In Finance and Operations, business events are implemented in some business processes out of the box. These business events can be typically classified as application business events and workflow business events. The alert feature, which is typically used by users to notify others of data changes in the application, can also be configured for business events. The administrator can configure these in order to send business events to Azure messaging services such as Azure Event Grid, Event Hub, and Azure Service Bus. External business processes or applications can subscribe to those events and act on such events for various use cases such as integration, workflow, or notification.

Business events are also available as triggers in Finance and Operation connectors with the name When business events occur. This trigger can be used in Power Automate or Logic Apps to subscribe to any of the business events that are available in the target instance of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

Now, let's explore the key concepts related to business events in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
