Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 or ADLS is an object storage unit that provides the foundation for building enterprise Data Lake on Azure. ADLS is designed to store massive amounts of data for a very low cost and optimized for copy or data transformations to handle analytical workloads. The following screenshot shows Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 in the Azure portal:

As highlighted in the preceding screenshot, ADLS is a storage account where data can be organized into containers, folders, and files.
