The code upgrade tool helps you plan your upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft D365FO One Version by analyzing code artifacts from the prior versions of Microsoft D365FO (for example, 8.x or 7.x) or Dynamics AX 2012.

It can also be just run for estimations so that you can receive analysis reports. When only the estimation is used, the exported and upgraded models will not be checked in to Azure DevOps/Visual Studio Team Services and will not be available for download.

These are the brief steps that must be followed when upgrading from Dynamics AX 2012:

1. Create an upgrade analysis job (the task you are performing now).
2. Export your AX 2012 model store.
3. Zip (compress) the model store file.
4. Upload your compressed model store.
5. After the job has completed, download the metadata file, UpgradedMetadata.zip, or connect to the Azure DevOps/Visual Studio Team Services project containing the upgraded code. We expect Microsoft to release a data upgrade service as well for the previous versions.
