Selecting the right integration technology

It is important to select the best-suited integration technology for each of the identified integration requirements. The previous section described the different integration technologies and tools, along with recommendations on their use cases. Depending on the requirements for each integration, different technologies can be used. The following table explains some sample integration points and the recommended integration technologies:

The product is created in a custom LOB application. When a product is created or changed in the LOB application, the user should see the same change, in real-time, in Finance and Operations.

The customer can be created or updated either on the Dynamics 365 for Sales (such as address) or updated in Finance and Operations (such as credit limit) and synced in both the systems.

Dual-write.

Sales orders

Orders will be created in the Custom LOB application and created or updated to Finance and Operations. Sales order status updates such as shipment confirmation, invoices, and payment applications need to be synced to the custom application.

Batch data APIs to create or update sales orders in Finance and Operations. 

Business events to provide near real-time status updates of the orders.

Sales orders 

A self-hosted customer portal where customers can check the status of their orders. Order status information is maintained in Finance and Operations.

OData service endpoints to read order status information from Finance and Operations.
