Using the eraser

Use the Eraser to erase all or parts of a free-form line, shape, or graph. OneNote offers two types of erasers:

  • Eraser (small, medium, and large) . Drag over a line with this eraser to remove part of a line.

  • Stroke eraser . Click a line with this eraser to erase an entire stroke (each time you lift the pen device, mouse, or finger, a new stroke is created).

Just as with drawing, you must inform OneNote when you are finished erasing.

Use the eraser

  1. On the ribbon, click the Draw tab.

  2. In the Tools group, click the Eraser button to open a gallery and choose an eraser.

  3. Click to erase a single stroke with the Stroke Eraser, or, using the Small, Medium, or Large Eraser, drag across a line or shape to erase part of it.

  4. Press Esc or click Type when you finish erasing to resume typing notes.

Tip

By erasing parts of lines, you can create new shapes. For example, by erasing part of an oval, you can create an arc.

Caution

Erasing part of a line or shape breaks the line or shape into separate parts and creates two separate drawings. This is an issue if you want to move the drawing. To move a drawing’s various parts, use the Lasso Select tool to select the drawing and then move it.
