Sometimes a link needs editing. For example, the target of the link changes and the link needs to go to a different notebook, file, or webpage. Or, the text that forms the link needs a rewrite or needs to be removed altogether.

OneNote offers the Link dialog box for editing links. In this dialog box, you can rewrite link text or direct the link to a different target. You can also remove a link without having to open the Link dialog box.

  1. Right-click the link that you want to edit. (Link text is normally blue and underlined.)

  2. On the shortcut menu that appears, click Edit Link.

  3. In the Link dialog box, rewrite the link text in the Text To Display box if you want.

  4. Choose a different location for the link:

    • To link to a different webpage, click the Browse The Web button.

    • To link to a different target file, click the Browse For File button.

    • Choose a different page, section, or notebook in the All Notebooks list.

  5. Click OK.

Tip

To format the text that forms a link, right-click the link and then, on the shortcut menu that appears, click Select Link. After the text is selected, on the Home tab, you can apply text formatting commands as you would to any other text in the note.

Tip

You can copy a link to other pages in your notebook. Right-click the link and then, on the shortcut menu that appears, click Copy Link. Then, paste the link on a different page.

  1. Right-click a link to a webpage, file, or OneNote location. (Link text is blue and underlined.)

  2. On the shortcut menu that appears, click Remove Link.

Caution

After you remove a link, the text remains but the link is no longer active. To remove the text, select it and press Delete.
