Translating a foreign word or phrase

OneNote 2013 offers the opportunity to translate text not just from English to a foreign language but also from one foreign language to another. After the translation is complete, you can copy it to the Clipboard and paste it in a note.

Translate a word or phrase

  1. Drag to select the word or phrase that you want to translate (if you want to translate a single word, simply click that word).

  2. On the ribbon, click the Review tab.

  3. Click Translate.

  4. Click Translate Selected Text.

  5. In the From drop-down list, click the language in which the text you selected is written.

  6. In the To drop-down list, click the language to which you want to translate the text.

  7. Click the Start Searching button.

A translation appears in the Microsoft Translator section of the task pane.

  8. Click Insert and choose Insert to insert the translation on the page.

Tip

A fast way to translate text is to select it, right-click it, and click Translate on the shortcut menu. OneNote translates the text using the previous From and To options you selected. Choose different From and To options if necessary and then click the Start Searching button to complete the translation.

Tip

You can replace the foreign text with the translation by clicking Insert in step 8 and clicking Insert again.

Try This

Click the Translation Options link in the Research task pane to open the Translation Options dialog box. It shows all the available language pairs (the To and From translation options). If the To and From language pair you need isn’t in the Research task pane, click it in this dialog box so you can translate text to and from the languages of your choice.
