Searching for notes in all open notebooks
To search more than one notebook, the notebooks must be open. Ensure that the Notebook pane lists all notebooks that you want to search before you start searching more than one notebook.
In a search of all notebooks, all pages on which the search term is found are listed. Pages with the search term in the Recycle Bin and pages with the search term only in the title are listed, as well. For each page, OneNote lists the notebook and section in which the page is located. This helps you to quickly identify the page you’re trying to find.
Click a page name to preview a page. Notes on the page with your search term are highlighted in yellow. Click a page to edit the page and dismiss the search results list.
Search all open notebooks

Open the notebooks that you want to search (ensure that their names appear in the Notebook pane).

Click the Change Search Scope down-arrow.

Click All Notebooks.

Type a term in the Search box.

Click a page in the search results list to preview a page with the search term. Continue to click page names to preview pages and locate the page you want.

To close the search results list, in the Search box, click the Close button, press Esc, or click the page you’re previewing.
Caution
OneNote can search only notebooks that are open. If you can’t find a note, it could be because it is located in a notebook that is closed or a section that is password-protected and currently locked. Open the notebook or unlock the section and try the search again.
