Password-protecting a section
You can password-protect a OneNote 2013 section if you want to control who can read its pages. Before you password-protect a section, consider these password restrictions:

To search password-protected sections, you must open them first and conduct your search within ten minutes of opening (you can change this setting on the Advanced tab in the OneNote Options dialog box).

You can’t share password-protected sections with OneNote Web App or OneNote mobile apps.

Passwords are case-sensitive (you must enter, and remember, the right combination of uppercase and lowercase letters).
Password-protect a section

Right-click the section tab of the section to which you want apply a password.

On the shortcut menu that appears, click Password Protect This Section.

In the Password Protection pane, click Set Password.

In the Password Protection dialog box, in the Enter Password text box, type a password. Type it again in the Confirm Password text box for confirmation purposes and click OK.

If the Existing Section Backups dialog box appears, click Delete Existing Backups. (Because previous backups were not password protected, you’ll want to remove them.)
Tip
To determine how long sections are unlocked and available for editing after you enter the password, click the File tab and choose Options. Then, in the Advanced category of the OneNote Options dialog box, choose a setting from the Lock Password Protected Sections After I Have Worked On Them menu.
