Setting Up View Logging

View logging is a new feature made available with Domino/Lotus 6 that tracks all view updates and changes in the transaction log. All logged transactions are written to disk sequentially to be committed to the database at a later time. The transaction logs can be used for backups and backup recoveries (such as if the system crashes or a hard drive fails).

Another advantage to using view logging is that many view rebuilds can be avoided. If the Domino server is restarted, this can significantly reduce the time to rebuild views. However, view logging does negatively impact server performance and should typically be avoided for most views unless they are considered vital views in an application.

View logging is enabled on the Advanced tab of the View Infobox, where you select the option Include Updates in Transaction Log.
