A Data Connection Resource (DCR) is a design element new to Domino 6 that makes it very easy to integrate Domino applications with external data sources such as Microsoft SQL server and IBM DB2.
A data source must be configured on the server before you can create a DCR. For more information on configuring a data source on the server, see the Lotus Domino Administrator Help database (help6_admin.nsf). |
To create a DCR, follow these steps:
1. | Open the database that will contain the DCR. |
2. | In the Design Pane, select Shared Resources, Data Connections to display the list of existing DCRs. |
3. | Click the New Data Connection button to open the Data Connection properties box, shown in Figure 9.13. Figure 9.13. The Data Connection properties box. |
4. | Supply a name for the DCR. |
5. | Choose the class of the connection. The default is RMDBS. |
6. | Choose the connection type. Many databases have native drivers. When possible, use the native driver; otherwise, select a generic driver such as ODBC or OLE DB. |
7. | (Optional) Supply a username and password to access the database. |
8. | If required by the backend system, supply a database name. |
9. | Choose the type of database object you want to access: table, view, or procedure. |
10. | Supply the name of the table, view, or procedure that you wish to access. Click the Browse Metadata button to view a list of objects in the specified external database. |
11. | (Optional) Configure other DCR settings. |
Like other design resources, you can define a DCR and then use it in many places within an application, or use it in another application. |
