Using Images in Applications

An image resource is a shared graphics file that can now be stored in its native image type (JPEG or GIF).

Inserting Images into Forms or Pages

To insert an image resource into a form or page, follow these steps:

1.	Open the form or page in the Notes Designer.
2.	Position the cursor in the desired location on the image.
3.	Select Create, Image Resource from the pull-down menu.
4.	Select the image type to display (GIF Images, JPEG Images, or All Images).
5.	Select the database that contains the image resource by selecting a database name from the drop-down menu or by clicking the folder icon to select a database from an alternate server.
6.	Select the image name to insert.
7.	Click OK.

Alternatively, you can also add, delete, and rename image resources from the Insert Image Resource dialog by clicking on the New, Delete, or Rename buttons located below the Image Resource Selection fields.

Importing Graphics and Supported Image Types

Graphics can be incorporated by any of the following means:

• Copy and paste a graphic from the Clipboard.

• Use the pull-down menu to create a picture.

• Use the pull-down menu to import a graphic file.

• Use the pull-down menu to create an image resource.

• Use the pull-down menu to insert a shared image from the shared resources.

When importing images into a page or form, the image types supported are

• BMP

• CMG

• GIF

• JPEG

• Lotus PIC

• PCX Image

• TIFF 5.0 Image

When designing applications for the Web, use GIFs or JPEGs because they are supported on the Web. Otherwise, other image types are converted on the fly by the Domino server.

Modifying Picture Properties

After an image resource has been inserted, the picture properties can be modified for each resource on a series of tabs, described as follows:

• Basic picture information, such as image source name, text wrap settings, scaling, alternate text, caption, and hotspot settings (see Figure 3.2)

• Border settings

• Alignment, indentation, list, and spacing settings

• Margins, tab stops, and pagination settings

• Hide-when attributes

• Paragraph styles

• HTML properties, such as HTML item name and HTML tag settings

Creating Pictures

To create a picture, follow these steps:

1.	Open the page or form in which you want to insert the picture.
2.	Place the cursor in the location where you want to place the picture.
3.	Select Create, Picture from the drop-down menu.
4.	Select the file type to display from the options in the dialog box.
5.	Select the file or type the filename you want to insert.
6.	Click Import.

Working with Image Maps

An image map is a graphic on which designers can place programmable hot spots.

To create an image map, you can either paste a previously copied image onto the operating system Clipboard or import an existing image file. The image map can be any file format other than .PIC and will be stored and displayed in its native file format.

To create an image map, follow these steps:

1.	Create a page or form (or open an existing page or form).
2.	Add a graphical image to the page by selecting Create, Image Resource from the pull-down menu.
3.	Select the image to be used as the image map.
4.	Add selectable hot spots by selecting Picture, Add Hot spot Rectangle from the pull-down menu. You can alternatively select to add a hot spot circle, polygon, or default hot spot (which selects the entire graphic image).
