Hiding Columns

Although Domino has long supported hidden columns in a view, Domino 6 now enables developers to programmatically hide and show columns in a view. To programmatically hide a column, follow these steps:

1.
Open a view in the Designer client.

2.
Right-click the column you want to hide. This opens the Column properties box. Click the Advanced tab (the seventh tab), shown in Figure 9.12.

3.
Enable the appropriate hide-when settings:

  • Enable Hide Column to hide the column permanently.

  • Enable Hide Column If Formula Is True if you want to supply a formula that will make the column hidden when formula returns TRUE and will display the column when the formula returns FALSE.

  • Enable Hide in Notes R5 or Before if you want to hide the column from Notes users using any Notes client version prior to 6.

4.
Save the view that contains the column.

Be prepared to see one or more questions on the exam about the new capabilities of columns.
