Working with DXL Tools

Domino's architecture is similar to XML in that they both separate data from formatting. Domino presents a document, which is data, through a form that controls the formatting.

Domino XML Language (DXL) was developed to represent Domino data. It contains the tags and attributes needed to describe Notes elements stored in an .nsf file.

Designer ND6 includes some DXL Utilites that can be used as tools for handling XML. The three tools are

  • Exporter— Converts design elements into DXL.

  • Viewer— Displays the elements in the DXL format.

  • Transformer— Applies a style sheet to design elements and outputs the elements to a display screen or creates an HTML file.

You can access these tools by selecting Tools, DXL Utilities from the Designer Client menu.

New with ND6 also, are LotusScript classes for working with DXL; most of the existing classes have been updated with methods to work with XML.
