Administration Server

ACL maintenance was greatly simplified when Lotus introduced the Administration process, better known as the Admin process or AdminP. One of the main tasks of the Admin process is to make sure that names in the ACL of a database, as well as names stored in the Names, Readers, and Authors fields, are updated when they are changed in the Domino directory.

A key beside a server name in the ACL indicates that the server is the Administration Server.

The Administration Server setting is found on the Advanced tab of the ACL of each database. It is to specify which server's Admin process is used to update the ACL and to determine whether the Admin process should update Names fields in the database. Figure 10.1 shows the Administration Server options:

To set the Administration Server setting, follow these steps:

1.
Open the ACL of the database whose Administration Server setting you want to modify.

2.
Click the Advanced tab.

3.
Click the Server radio button under Administration Server and choose a server from the drop-down list.

4.
Optionally, choose an Action from the following list: Do Not Modify Names Fields, Modify All Readers and Authors Fields, or Modify All Names Fields, which tells the Admin process what to do about changes to Names fields in the database.

5.
Click OK to save the changes.
