Setting Up Web Site Rules

Before creating a Web Site Rule, you must first create a Web Site document. Rules are applied to Web Site documents and appear as their response documents in the Internet Sites view.

To create a Web Site document:

1.
From the Configuration tab in the Administrator client, expand the Web section and click the Internet Sites view.

2.
Click the Add Internet Site button.

3.
From the Add Internet Site drop List (shown in Figure 15.3), select Web.

4.
In the Web Site document, shown in Figure 15.4, complete the fields on the different tabs as described in Table 15.1.

5.
Save and close the document.

TabDescription
BasicsThese fields are used to identify the Web site.
  • Descriptive name for this site— Displays in the Internet Site's view.

  • Organization— Optional in a nonhosted site; otherwise must be the name of the registered hosted organization.

  • Use this Web site…— Allows Administrators to set this document as the default Web site. As a new security feature of Domino 6, Domino refuses to process requests to a server that do not match to any Web Site documents, unless a default Web Site document has been created. Because Default Web Site documents do not map explicitly to any hostname or IP address, they can be a security risk from external probing. It is recommended not to use this setting on a public Internet, but on an internal test system or intranet.

  • Host names or address…— Enter one or more DNS hostnames or IP addresses that this site should handle. List DNS hostnames when you know the incoming requests have valid Host headers. There are two situations in which this may not occur and you would have to list the IP address:

    • When the Web site has SSL enabled.

    • When there is a possibility that it will be accessed by HTTP 1.0 clients where the Host header is optional. It is mandatory for version 1.1.

  • Domino servers that host this site— List of server names that share the Domino Directory set up to host this Web site. The names must be listed in Domino hierarchical format, such as dlb/Home, and not in DNS host name format, which looks like www.Home.com. You may also use the wildcard character *.

ConfigurationEnter the Default Mapping Rules and the Allowed Methods.
Domino Web EngineSpecify the default settings such as Conversion/Display, Character Sets, and Languages.
SecurityDefine your allowable TCP and SSL Authentication.

Be careful of the descriptive names you assign when using multiple Web Site documents.

Multiple Web Site documents may be created, each specifying a different hostname or IP address that maps to this site. Web Site documents are listed in the view sorted by the Descriptive name for this site: field. Domino 6 scans the Internet Sites view from top to bottom and uses the first Web Site document that matches the hostname or IP address. If the first match uses an IP address, the system will never reach the different hostname documents. In giving a descriptive name, make sure the IP address Web Site documents are named in such a way as to sort last in the view.
