Design Applications Based on Graphics Elements

An image resource is a graphic that can be displayed throughout an application from a central location within the database. This saves space and minimizes maintenance because any changes you make to the image are automatically reflected in each place that refers to the image resource. An image resource can be a .gif, .jpeg, or .bmp file, which is saved in the database. After you have created an image resource, it can be used to add graphics or icons to pages, forms, action buttons, and outline entries, or it can be used to add background images on forms, documents, pages, table cells, and action buttons.

Image resources displayed on the Web are converted to .gif or .jpeg format.

To create an image resource, follow these steps:

1.
Open the database in which you would like to add an Image Resource.

2.
Expand Resources in the Design pane, and choose Images to see a list of all the image resources in the database.

3.
Click the New Image Resource button, which opens the New Image dialog box.

4.
Choose a file (or files) to import, and ensure that it is either a .gif, .bmp, or .jpeg file.

5.
Click Open to add the file(s) as an image resource. Designer creates an image resource for each file.

After you have added image resources, you can follow these steps to use an image resource in your application:

1.
Open a page, form, outline entry, or other design element in which you'd like to add an image.
