Creating, Modifying, and Troubleshooting Navigators

Navigators enable you to build a graphical image of folders, views, and other design elements so that users can easily find information. Normally, navigators use hotspots that, when clicked, either perform some action or open a design element such as a view.

Creating a Navigator

To create a navigator, follow these steps:

1.
Open the database that will contain the navigator in the Designer client.

2.
Choose Create, Design, Navigator from the menu.

3.
Select Design, Navigator Properties or right-click and choose Navigator properties to open the Navigator properties box, shown in Figure 4.16.

4.
Enter a name for the navigator.

5.
Optionally, deselect the Web Browser Compatible check box if you are not going to use the navigator on the Web.

Be sure to select the Web Browser Compatible property if you plan to use a navigator in a Web-based application. Enabling this setting causes Domino to convert the navigator to an image map.

6.
Optionally, select an initial view or folder to open along with the navigator.

7.
Add items to the navigator, using either the Create menu or the SmartIcons bar. Choose to code the actions, using Simple Actions, Formulas, or LotusScript.

8.
Save and test the navigator.

Modify a Navigator

1.
Open the navigator you want to change in the Designer client.

2.
Make the necessary changes to the navigator.

3.
Save and test the navigator.

Troubleshooting a Navigator

The following is a list of common navigator problems and their resolution:

  • Navigator will not work on the Web— Ensure that the Web Browser Compatible feature is enabled.

  • Navigator does not load in appropriate spot— Ensure that Auto Adjust Panes as Runtime is enabled.
