Access Data in an External Domino Database
With Lotus Notes/Domino 6, you can share design elements, code, and shared resources among different databases. This eases database maintenance by removing the need to copy and paste identical design elements from one database to another to utilize the design elements' functionality. Each database can contain its own library of shared code and resources and access shared elements in other databases. Therefore, you can develop your application to reference design elements and resources in other databases but store (and maintain) one physical copy of the design element or resource.
The following design elements and resources can be shared among databases:
Agents— Standalone programs that perform a specific task in one or more databases.
Outlines— Used to quickly and easily build user-friendly navigation for your applications.
Subforms— A collection of fields, graphics, buttons, and actions that are typically used on more than one form.
Shared fields— Fields defined for use on more than one form.
Shared Actions— Used in forms, pages, folders, or views to set up user-related tasks.
Script libraries— A place for storing code that can be shared within the application that contains LotusScript, JavaScript, or Java code.
Files— Any non-NSF file imported into the database, such as an HTML file.
Applets— Java applets imported for use in Web browsers or Notes clients.
Shared Java files— Java applets that use multiple files can access files stored as shared resources.
Data Connection Resource (DCR)— Design element where connections from a Domino database to a relational database are defined.
Style sheets— Imported cascading style sheets to control the interface layout (headers, links, text, fonts, styles, color, and margins).
