The Hand
The female hand is very similar to the male hand topologically, but
we usually don’t need as dense a mesh.
Figure 8-28 shows the reference sheet for the female hand.
As we did with the male hand, we start with a simple 4x4 box and
reshape the palm to fit our reference sheet.
Then extrude the thumb and cut at least four edge rings to reshape
the thumb so it matches the reference sheet.

We need one extra vertical cut on the thumb.
A horizontal cut completes the main thumb edges and holds the ten-
sion for the base of the palm.

Makes cuts as shown in Figure 8-33 to generate the new vertices
that will match the fingers.
In this case, the cylinder has no cap, so we merge all the vertices as
one.
To form the fingertip, cut a ring at the top and remove the dashed
lines. Now all the polygons are quads.

After the vertices are reshaped to fit our reference, we must add
new edges to improve the control over the joints of our finger.
Using the side view, push it up a little to reshape the bottom part.
Add an extra edge in the middle, and the finger is ready for any
deformation. Now let’s start cutting the base edges for the nail.
Select the four polygons of the nail and extrude a little bit, then
weld the marked vertices.

Now we select the marked polygons and extrude two times; this
gives us a nail that is a bit longer than the one for the male.
Then we add a few more edges to improve the tension and preserve
the original shape around the nail.
Push the marked vertices down a little. We’re almost done with the
finger.
