The Foot
We are going to model a bare foot including the toes here. Chapter 6
shows how to make the base shape for a boot or shoe.
Figure 8-53 shows the reference sheet for the foot.
First, we’ll create the toes, starting with an eight-sided cylinder.
Remove the dashed lines to keep the front completely quad.

Move the vertices to fit the toe reference.
After checking the toe in the subdivided view, we start cutting the
area for the nail.
Chamfer the marked area so we get two extra edges, then reshape
the nail to conform to our toe reference.

This toe will be used as a template for the others. Notice that the
original toe must be duplicated and resized and the vertices need to
be tweaked. For the base of the foot we use a box with 4x4x2 seg-
ments and reshape according to our reference sheet.
The back polygons of the foot shape will be extruded in a way to fol-
low the flow of the reference.
Now it’s time to move the vertices to smooth the foot extensor’s
tendon and then cut as shown below to fit our eight-sided low-poly
toe.

With the hole opened, just weld and match the vertices of the toe
and the foot.
Repeat the process until all the toes are welded and integrated to
the foot.
With the foot finished, we attach the foot to the leg and merge the
matching vertices. If your focus is elegance, take care when refining
the knee area so you don’t add too many edges in the female leg.
