Use Shortcuts to Select Text?

When you find yourself working with type frequently or editing a lot of text, you can save a ton of time by learning some simple shortcuts for selecting type. Try these on for size to quickly start selecting your text:

  • To select an entire word: double-click on it.
  • To select characters to the left of where your text cursor is located: press Shift-left arrow key. Every press of the arrow key adds one more character to the selection.
  • To select characters to the right of where your text cursor is located: press Shift-right arrow key. Every press of the arrow key adds one character to the selection.
  • To select a whole line of text: triple-click on it.
  • To select an entire paragraph: quadruple-click on it (yep, that’s four clicks).
  • To select the line in which your text cursor is currently located: press Command-Shift-(PC: Ctrl-Shift-).

By just using these six simple shortcuts, you’ll save more time every time you need to select text!
