Add a Gradient to Type?

image

When a solid color just isn’t enough for your type, how can you add something cool like a sexy gradient? Yes, I said sexy for impact. Adding a gradient is as simple as selecting the text to which you want to apply the gradient, opening up the Gradient panel (Window > Color > Gradient), and clicking on the gradient icon in the upper-left corner of the panel. This applies the default black-to-white gradient. Now click once on the little box below the left end of the gradient bar at the bottom of the panel, and then double-click on the Type color icon in the Control panel to bring up the Color Picker dialog. You can select any color for your gradient, but here’s a tip: if you want to select an existing color in your document, just click-and-hold on the little eyedropper in the Color Picker dialog and drag it over to the color in your document, then release. Press OK, and then repeat the steps for the other end of the gradient. You can rotate the gradient path by typing a degree value into the Angle field in the Gradient panel, and you can click on Reverse to switch the colors around. Use the Type pop-up menu to select a Linear or Radial gradient.
