Preview My Image While Moving it Around Within a Frame?

image

I briefly covered this in another tip, but I wanted to put it into its own tip because it can be very helpful when you’re positioning images in InDesign. This is called “Patient User Mode” by Scott Kelby and Terry White. When you place an image into a frame and it is much larger than the frame, you can use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to click on the little donut in the center of the image and drag it around in the frame. The only problem is you don’t see a live preview of where you’re moving the image. However, if you click-and-hold on the image for two seconds before you start to move it, you will be able to see the entire image as you move it. The portion of the image that is outside the frame will be ghosted, and the part that is within the frame is not ghosted.
