image

So, what’s an INDD file? This is the default file type for the current version of InDesign. To save your document as an INDD file, go to File > Save/Save As/Save a Copy to bring up the Save dialog. Here, you get to name your file and decide where you want to save it, and there several file format options in the Format (PC: Save as Type) pop-up menu near the bottom of the dialog: InDesign CC 2019 document / InDesign CC 2019 / InDesign CS4 or later (IDML). Select the first option, and your document will be saved as a native INDD file. This means it will only open with the current version of InDesign. To save a file that can be opened in a version of InDesign that is older than the one you are currently using, well, check out the next tip!
