Add a Drop Shadow to Text?

image

A drop shadow is only going to work effectively on large text. To add the shadow, use the Selection Tool (V) to select your text block, and then go to Object > Effects > Drop Shadow. Before you change any settings in the Effects dialog, make sure you check the Preview checkbox so you can see a live preview of the effect as you make your selections. Then make sure that Drop Shadow is checked in the list of effects on left side of the dialog (it should be checked already if you selected Drop Shadow from the Object > Effects menu). You can then change the Blending Mode and Opacity, and adjust the position and angle of the shadow. Click OK when you’re done. Just remember that when it comes to effects like drop shadows, just because you can doesn’t always mean you should! Also note that in InDesign a drop shadow (or an effect) can only be applied to the entire contents of the frame—in this instance, the text frame. In other words, you can’t just select one word within a text frame and apply a drop shadow to it. To do that, you would have to place that word into a separate text frame.
