Change the Default Swatches?

image

When you first open InDesign and go to the Swatches panel, you’ll have a set of very generic default swatches, but you can create a new set of default swatches to better suit your needs. With no documents open (this is standard practice for setting up any default options for all future documents in that session), go to your Swatches panel and delete the swatches you don’t need, or edit them, add new ones, reorder them, rename them—all of these methods are covered in this chapter. These will now be your default swatches for any new documents you open from this point forward (until you set up new defaults).

TIP: SAVE YOUR SWATCHES

One thing to keep in mind is that when you’re creating new swatch collections, you should always save them, either by adding them to your CC Libraries (see page 166), or by saving them as an ASE file on your computer or in cloud storage. To save them as an ASE file, simply select the swatch colors in the Swatches panel, open the panel menu, and choose Save Swatches. Save the file in your chosen location for future use.
